Swedish massage is the most popular Western style of massage therapy.
Swedish massage combines the manual manipulation of soft tissues of the body (muscle, tendon, ligament) and joint movements to increase all functions of the body including blood and lymph circulation, nerve response, and metabolism. Relaxation of muscles is a very important result of massage therapy, as well as relief of pain.
Lomi-Lomi is a traditional form of health care in Hawaii. This style of Lomi-Lomi Julie practices involves working mainly with the forearm and elbow, rather than the hands. The client will experience a faster, deeper, more invigorating treatment than with a Swedish massage. Lomi-Lomi is a routine that follows a specific sequence. A session may take from 40 to 75 minutes, depending on the client’s size and/or level of muscle tension. Benefits include decreased congestion throughout the body, relaxation of the nervous system, increased circulation, and a greater sense of well-being. You may find that following a Lomi-Lomi treatment, your senses are more acute. Your session will include music from Hawaii and tropical scented oils.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a very gentle method of decreasing inflammation throughout the body. This can be used as a full-body treatment or site-specific, for acute injuries with localized areas of swelling. MLD is also a good choice for someone who is unsure about their first massage, has emotional issues with touch, or has pain with moderate or deep levels of pressure. It is extremely beneficial for diabetics or pre- or post-surgery.
Ear Candling is a homeopathic method of clearing the inner-ear. While some sources maintain that it is not effective, I have had only positive results. It is very effective for clearing the ears following a head cold, and it helps to decongest the sinuses and may reduce pain or ringing in the ear. A light massage around the ear, throat, and sinuses will follow the treatment.
